UGETSU GAMA-“KILN OF MOONLIGHT AND RAIN'‘.

MOONLIGHT AND RAIN BOTH EVOKE POWERFUL EMOTIONS AND CREATE DRAMATICALLY BEAUTIFUL ATMOSPHERE. THESE ARE THINGS I SEEK FOR MY WORK TO PRODUCE AS WELL. THE VOCABULARY IS ALSO INSPIRED BY THE FOUNDER OF THE JAPANESE TEA CEREMONY MURATA JUKŌ WHOSE FONDNESS FOR UNGLAZED WOOD FIRED CERAMICS INSPIRED THE WABI CHA DISCIPLINE. JUKŌ POETICALLY REFERRED TO THESE WARES AS “CHILLED AND WITHERED”. I BELIEVE THAT MOONLIGHT AND RAIN CALL FORTH SIMILAR SENTIMENTS AND OFFER SIMILAR CREATIVE STIMULI
